Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for Mchinji Police Station, Susan Mchekeya, on Wednesday confirmed the incident to Malawi News Agency in an interview on Wednesday.
“It is reported that Chimbiya and his three accomplices who are at large, assaulted Alufeyo Saimoni and Galatiya Magombo, before robbing them of a Kinglion motorcycle.
“One of the victims revealed that he had recognized Chimbiya during the attack, whom he described as his personal friend,” Mchekeya said.
She said Saimoni and Magombo sustained serious head injuries and were admitted at Mchinji District Hospital for medical treatment.
Mchekeya said police have launched further investigations aimed at recovering the stolen motorcycle and tracing the remaining three suspects.
Chimbiya who hails from Zandana Village, Traditional Authority Mlonyeni in Mchinji District is expected to appear before the court upon completion of the investigations to answer robbery-related charges.
