Universal Industries Limited has donated assorted items worth K850,000 to Nyika Media Club for its Mother’s Day charity outreach at Bolero Rural Hospital in Rumphi District on 15 October.

The donation includes 15 cases of Nyika Water, five cases of Frooty Squash containing 30 two-litre bottles each, 40 packs of coconut biscuits and 25 packets of processed baking flour.

Kenneth Njiragoma, Regional Sales Manager for the North at Universal Industries Limited, said the company supported the initiative as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Njiragoma said the partnership was also fitting because the company’s Nyika-branded products shared a name with the club.

“We are in business, but business cannot survive without the community,” he said.

He called on other companies with the capacity to do so to support community initiatives as a way of giving back to the people who contribute to their success.

Nyika Media Club Vice Chairperson Clementina Pondelani said the donation would help the club provide support to mothers during the outreach.

She said the club had approached several companies for assistance, with some responding positively, but more contributions were still needed to reach additional patients at the health facility.

“We have a lot of patients at Bolero Health Centre, so to reach out to all of them, we may need some other items as well. Everything that somebody has is welcome,” Pondelani said.

She invited other companies and well-wishers to contribute towards the outreach, which will take place on 15 October, when Mother’s Day is commemorated.
